Waerebo Village

Wae Rebo, nestled high in Flores’ Manggarai highlands at about 1,200 meters above sea level, is a secluded cultural gem accessible only by a scenic 3–4 hour trek through lush, forested hills. The village is home to seven iconic “Mbaru Niang” cone-shaped communal houses, each built with five distinct levels serving both familial and sacred purposes. Recognized for its cultural significance, Wae Rebo was honored by UNESCO in 2012 for heritage conservation. Visitors are greeted with a traditional welcome ceremony, stay overnight in the communal homes, and gain a rare insight into age-old customs, rituals like Penti, and sustainable coffee farming.

Wae Rebo is a remote mountain village on Flores Island, perched at around 1,100–1,200 m, famous for its seven unique cone-shaped "Mbaru Niang" houses and rich Manggarai culture.
